Maria and the City

It is Monday, June 14th, one week after my first ever official CD Release Show, at Joe’s Pub in New York City, the perfect venue to celebrate the release of Deeper. There is always this moment of silence after a big event in one’s life, this little gap in which the world looks somehow different, you’re watching it through a thin wall of glass. The wall is protecting you, because oh how sensitive we artists are. It is protection but also hiding place for seeding and sprouting and hopefully blossoming of fresh expressions of one’s soul. New perspectives and deeper insight. Yes, that is where we need to go, deeper …

So I got my music and my Happy T-Shirt and made my way into the city last weekend … crossing the bridge from Brooklyn to Manhattan … to the Lower East Side.

There is this super charming diner kind of restaurant I like because it reminds me of home, it’s Ukranian and called “Veselka”, like the girl that used to cut my hair in Vienna :)

I am enough americanized, though, to have ordered a burger and fries. :p I am definitely one of these Europeans that constantly whine about the food being so unhealthy in America, while battling my cookie cravings and refusing to turn into a daily jogging city-yogi living on tofu and seaweed, ever searching for a loaf of good bread. (never good enough) But, sometimes, sometimes, you need to get a nice burger. (and feel bad afterwards)

By the way, recently at Veselka there was a woman in front of me, waiting in line for the bathroom. (You spend years waiting in line for the bathroom in New York.) One of these moments where your bored mind looks for any kind of task (you should have brought a book), so you examine the person in front of you and wonder why people are so strange or what they do or what they think … anyway, next day that same woman was in front of me in line for the bathroom at Barnes and Noble on Union Square. I thought that was pretty weird, I mean it’s New York City, this place has more people than my country!

I love, love, love strolling through the city with my friends, searching for some good music, and there is lots of it within these few blocks, but what happened here?

Is this Maria’s Wonderland???

Oh, no … :( that would have been soooo nice …

Oh – oh … Maria sometimes gets a little … ahm … frustrated … especially when she is Missing You … but wait … I think that bunny had something to say.

He said, he said, he said … there is a place where you can always find a song to make you smile …

Aaaaahhhhhh … I Remember! :)

This is where the bunny led me. And I like it here. HAPPY !!!

COME JOIN ME AT ROCKWOOD MUSIC HALL

on SATURDAY, JULY 3rd, 5pm.

YOU WILL LIKE IT THERE TOO.

Wishing you a happy week,
Maria
